Custom Table FAQs – Everything You Need to Know

1. What makes your tables different from others on the market?

Our tables are handcrafted from hardwoods using premium finishes and designed with modern powder-coated metal bases for strength, style, and longevity. Unlike flat-packed or mass-produced options, each table is made to order and shipped fully assembled to ensure stability and true craftsmanship.

2. What materials do you use?

We use premium-grade hardwoods, including ambrosia maple, walnut, white oak, and elm, paired with custom powder-coated metal bases. Every table is finished with Rubio Monocoat, a plant-based, VOC-free oil that enhances the natural beauty of the wood while offering lasting protection through molecular bonding technology. We also use high-quality epoxy to fill any natural cracks or imperfections in the wood. This not only adds to the visual character of each piece but also reinforces the structural integrity, helping prevent future cracking caused by the natural movement of wood in varying environments.

3. Do you offer custom sizes or designs?

Yes! We specialize in made-to-order pieces. Whether you need a specific size, wood type, or base configuration, we’re happy to create something tailored to your space. Reach out through our Contact Page if you have any questions or cannot find your specifications on our custom order page.

4. How are the tables shipped?

All tables are shipped fully assembled and crated. Your order will be delivered by a professional freight carrier. This ensures the piece arrives safely and eliminates the hassle of home assembly.

5. Where do you ship?

We currently ship across the continental U.S. If you're located outside this area, contact us directly and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

6. How long does it take to receive my table?

Lead times vary based on current demand, but most tables are built and shipped within 4-6 weeks. We’ll provide updates throughout the process and notify you once your table is ready to ship.

7. Can I see examples of past work?

Yes! You can explore our Table Collection for current offerings, and follow us on Instagram or Facebook to see behind-the-scenes builds, client installs, and custom designs.

8. What’s your return or cancellation policy?

Due to the custom nature of our products, all sales are final. However, if there’s an issue with your order, we’ll work with you to make it right. Your satisfaction and trust mean everything to us.

9. Can I request a specific wood species?

Yes! While we primarily work with ambrosia maple, walnut, white oak, and elm, we’re able to source other domestic hardwoods based on availability. Contact us to discuss your vision.

10. Do you offer volume pricing for designers, restaurants, or offices?

We do. Modern Grain offers commercial pricing, interior designer discounts, and referral perks. Please contact us directly to learn more.

11. How should I care for my table?

Avoid harsh cleaners or silicone-based polishes. Clean with a damp cloth and mild soap when needed. We’ll provide detailed care instructions with every purchase to help you protect your investment.

12. Can I visit your workshop or showroom?

We’re a working studio and don’t have a public showroom at this time, but we’re happy to share photos, walk you through the process, and send wood samples if needed.

13. Do you offer custom sizes beyond what's listed?

Yes, absolutely. If you need a specific size that isn’t listed, we’re happy to accommodate. Simply purchase the closest size larger than your requested dimensions. During checkout, leave a note with your preferred custom length and/or width, and we’ll craft your table to fit your space.

14. Why are 5'–5.5'' tables only available with a straight base?

We offer straight bases for our 5'–5.5'' tables to ensure optimal seating space along the length of the table. With our current base designs, other styles may limit chair placement and reduce usable seating. If you'd prefer a different base, just leave a note at checkout. We're happy to review your request and confirm if it can be accommodated.

15. Do you make smaller tables like coffee tables, end tables, or consoles?

Yes, we do! While we’re still in the process of adding more table options to our site, we’re happy to create smaller custom pieces like coffee tables, end tables, or consoles. If you’re looking for something specific, please fill out our contact form with your request. A member of our team will get back to you within 24–48 hours to discuss your design and next steps.

16. Do you offer local delivery or warehouse pickup?

Absolutely! We offer local delivery within a 100-mile radius. At checkout, you’ll be able to see if your address qualifies for local delivery.

If you're outside the delivery area but prefer to pick up your table from our warehouse, just contact us directly. We'll be happy to send you an invoice with shipping removed so you can arrange for pickup instead.

17. Do you make larger tables than what’s listed?

Yes, we can build tables in nearly any size. While shipping for oversized pieces can require special coordination, we’re happy to work with you to create the perfect fit for your space.

18. Do you make round tables?

Yes, we do offer round tables in a wide range of sizes. While they’re not currently listed for purchase on our website, we’re happy to build them as custom orders. Round tables are available for local delivery or pickup.

We can also ship round tables; however, due to crating requirements and overall dimensions, logistics may vary. Please contact us to discuss options and receive a custom quote.

19. How long will it take to receive my table?

Because each table is handcrafted to order, our current production timeline is approximately 4–6 weeks. Every piece is built from scratch and receives one-on-one attention from our maker and founder, Justin Hammond, ensuring exceptional craftsmanship and detail.

In some cases, we’re able to complete orders ahead of schedule. If that happens, we’ll reach out to arrange an earlier delivery or pickup date that works for you.
